Ranbir Kapoor's Brahmastra 2 Faces Delay as Jio Studios Backs Out

Ranbir Kapoor's ambitious project Brahmastra Part Two: Dev has encountered a major setback, with Jio Studios reportedly withdrawing its support from the sequel. Director Ayan Mukerji, who has been developing the script and handling pre-production, is now actively searching for a new studio partner to finance the film. The sequel, which also stars Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone, is planned to begin filming in April 2027, but progress is on hold until a new investor is secured.

Ayan Mukerji's Astraverse universe began with Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, released in 2022, which introduced audiences to a unique blend of mythology and fantasy. The upcoming sequel is expected to expand on the story of Dev and Amrita, with Alia Bhatt returning as Isha and Deepika Padukone in discussions for the role of Amrita. The scale of the project is reportedly even larger than the first film, with an estimated production budget of ₹550 crore, though this figure has not been officially confirmed.

The need for substantial funding has become even more pressing after Jio's exit, making the search for a new backer crucial for the franchise's future. The project has already faced several delays, partly due to Ayan's ongoing script development and Ranbir Kapoor's busy schedule, including his work on Ramayana, which is slated for a Diwali release this year. Producer Namit Malhotra had previously expressed commitment to advancing the Astraverse at CinemaCon 2026, but the current financial challenge has put the sequel's timeline in question.

The team is now focused on securing a new investor to keep Brahmastra 2 on track for its planned 2027 shoot.
