Chiranjeevi and Nandamuri Balakrishna led heartfelt tributes following the passing of legendary playback singer S Janaki, who breathed her last in Mysuru at the age of 88. The news has cast a pall over the Indian film industry, with both stars emphasizing the profound personal and artistic impact Janaki had on their careers and Indian cinema at large.
Known as the “Nightingale of South India,” S Janaki’s career began in 1957 and spanned more than six decades, during which she recorded nearly 48,000 songs in over 20 languages. She collaborated with music greats like Ilaiyaraaja, AR Rahman, and MS Viswanathan, and became a cherished voice for generations of music lovers. Her duets with S.P. Nandamuri Balakrishna remarked that "her passing is an irreparable loss to the entire Indian film industry," recalling her close bond with the Nandamuri family and the timeless songs she sang for his father, N.T.
