Sanjay Dutt’s portrayal of the late Pakistani cop Chaudhry Aslam in Aditya Dhar’s blockbuster spy thriller Dhurandhar has sparked significant discussion. The film, which features Ranveer Singh and a stellar ensemble cast including Arjun Rampal and R Madhavan, has been a massive commercial success, grossing over ₹1,500 crore worldwide and recently releasing its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
Naureen Aslam, the widow of Chaudhry Aslam, expressed heartfelt appreciation for Dutt’s performance, stating, “When he stands near the car and raises his eyes, for a moment it felt like Aslam himself.” However, she also felt the film fell short in fully capturing her husband’s complex character, suggesting the filmmakers could have consulted her or other key sources to reflect both his strengths and flaws more authentically.
Behind the scenes, casting director Mukesh Chhabra revealed the challenges in assembling Dhurandhar’s impactful cast. Interestingly, three actors, including two from Bollywood and one from South India, declined the role of Rehman Dekait, portrayed by Akshaye Khanna. Chhabra emphasized that the film prioritized the impact of roles over screen time, noting how R Madhavan’s brief but powerful part resonated with audiences.
With Dhurandhar’s gripping narrative and compelling performances, the franchise has cemented its place among top spy thrillers. Fans eagerly await what Aditya Dhar and his team will deliver next in this high-octane saga.
