Ranveer Singh’s latest blockbuster, Dhurandhar 2, has become the talk of the nation, making headlines not just for its record-breaking collections but also for a copyright controversy surrounding its music. Directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by B62 Studios, this spy thriller has quickly established itself as a box office juggernaut since its release on March 19th.
The film, which also stars an impressive ensemble cast, recently crossed an unprecedented ₹1,500 crore worldwide, including a milestone as the first Hindi film to collect over ₹100 crore in Karnataka within just 11 days. Industry heavyweights like Prabhas and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga were spotted enjoying the movie at Allu Cinemas in Hyderabad, with Sandeep calling its box office performance "dominance" and "fierce," while director Nag Ashwin described Aditya Dhar as a "genius."
However, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has found itself embroiled in legal trouble after Trimurti Films filed a copyright suit over the use of “Rang De Lal,” originally from 1989’s Tridev, alleging that permissions were not secured from the rights holders. Despite the injunction sought, the film’s theatrical run remains unaffected.
Meanwhile, the first installment of Dhurandhar continues to shine on Netflix, racking up over 31 million views in just ten weeks and maintaining a strong global presence. With such overwhelming success both in theatres and on streaming, all eyes are now on how the legal proceedings unfold and what new heights Dhurandhar 2 will scale next.
