Gautham Vasudev Menon has been directed by the Madras High Court to pay Rs 4.25 crore along with 12 percent annual interest to production company R.S. Infotainment, resolving a legal battle spanning nearly two decades. This verdict, delivered on March 23, 2026, closes a dispute over an unproduced Tamil film originally planned in 2008.
The conflict arose from an agreement signed between Menon's Photon Factory and R.S. Infotainment to produce a film titled "production no. 6," which was scheduled to begin in December 2008. Despite an expected investment of Rs 13.5 crore, only Rs 4.25 crore was released and the project never commenced. Menon contended that the funds were redirected to another film, "Neethaane En Ponvasantham" (2012), made under a separate agreement.
However, the court found no evidence supporting the claim that the initial funds were utilized for the later film. It ruled that the original contract was not honored and ordered Menon and his production house to repay the amount with applicable interest and legal costs. This decision marks a notable legal challenge for Menon, who remains active with recent works like "Dominic and the Ladies' Purse," starring Mammootty, gaining positive reviews after its OTT release.
Looking ahead, industry watchers will be keen to see how Menon navigates this setback while continuing his directorial ventures and production activities.
