Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is currently entangled in a legal dispute as Sun TV Network Limited has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in the Madras High Court. This issue arose amidst the IPL's pre-season excitement, with allegations that CSK utilized music from blockbuster films like Jailer, Jailer 2, and Coolie in their promotional materials without securing the necessary permissions.
The complaint claims that CSK deployed audio tracks and dialogues from these films in a promotional video for their new jerseys, which was shared on social media before being taken down following a notice from Sun TV on March 1. Senior counsel for Sun TV, Ravindran, emphasized that CSK must refrain from further unauthorized use. In response, CSK's advocate PS Raman confirmed the removal of the tracks and assured the court that future projects would comply with copyright laws. The case has been adjourned to March 16, as the court contemplates potential penalties and the broader implications for copyright within the entertainment industry. With IPL season upon us, all eyes will be on the upcoming court hearings and their ramifications for CSK's promotional strategies.
