Actress Tamannaah Bhatia faced a legal setback as the Madras High Court dismissed her ₹1 crore claim against Power Soaps Limited for allegedly using her images beyond their contract period. Known for her recent hits and brand endorsements, Tamannaah’s legal tussle stemmed from a dispute over unauthorized usage of her photos after her endorsement deal expired in October 2009.
The controversy dates back to a 2008 agreement with Power Soaps, which allowed usage of her images for one year. Tamannaah claimed the company continued to feature her photos on product packaging and advertisements in 2010 and 2011, affecting her negotiations with competing brands. She demanded damages and an injunction to halt further use.
However, the Madras High Court, led by Justices P Velmurugan and K Govindarajan Thilakavadi, reaffirmed the earlier ruling that found her evidence insufficient. The court noted that the documentation, including purchase proofs and internet listings, failed to conclusively prove misuse beyond the contract term. "The appeal has no merit," the bench stated, dismissing her claims.
Fans and industry watchers have expressed surprise at the verdict, as endorsement deals are a critical aspect of celebrity careers. Moving forward, Tamannaah’s focus remains on her upcoming film projects and brand collaborations, while this legal chapter closes without compensation.
