Ram Charan’s Peddi in the Spotlight as Theatre Revenue Disputes Escalate

Ram Charan’s much-anticipated film Peddi is facing significant hurdles ahead of its June 4 release, as theatre exhibitors in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh intensify their push for a percentage-based revenue sharing model. With Ram Charan riding high on his recent successes, expectations for Peddi are immense, but the current industry turmoil threatens to overshadow the film’s launch.

At a recent press meet, key figures from the Telangana Exhibitors Association, including producers Chadalavada Srinivas and Suniel Narang, highlighted the struggles of single-screen theatres, calling the percentage-sharing model essential for survival. "If the producer is a father, the exhibitor is like a child... Only when exhibitors are in a good position does the industry thrive," Chadalavada Srinivas emphasized. Shirish Reddy of SVC reinforced, "Even if the government permits it, we won’t allow hiked ticket prices in single screens."

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh exhibitors are preparing for decisive action, with a crucial meeting set for May 14. If talks fail, theatres may close from May 29—just days before Peddi’s scheduled debut. Mythri Movie Makers, who are distributing Peddi in Nizam, have so far resisted the new revenue model, deepening the standoff.

As the clock ticks down to Peddi’s release, all eyes are on the outcome of the exhibitor meetings and the industry’s response. Fans and trade watchers alike await clarity on whether the film will reach audiences as planned.
