Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi has stirred up buzz after its makers turned down a hefty OTT offer, reaffirming their commitment to a theatrical release. This war drama, directed by Apporva Lakhia, was initially slated for an April 2026 premiere but has now encountered new delays.
Salman Khan, known for his blockbuster appeal and strong box office presence, reportedly insisted that Maatrubhumi deserves a grand big-screen debut. The team’s decision to reject the lucrative digital deal surprised many in the trade, especially at a time when OTT platforms are actively pursuing major projects.
Regulatory challenges have added to the film’s journey. The film, previously titled Battle of Galwan, faced scrutiny after its teaser drew criticism from Chinese state-affiliated media in December 2025. Responding to government advisories, the makers changed the title and shifted focus from the Galwan conflict to family and relationships, while retaining some war sequences. As per sources, "the team is currently assessing the next steps for a smooth release after making the necessary changes."
With no official release date yet, Maatrubhumi is now expected to hit cinemas in August 2026. Fans and industry watchers will be keenly awaiting updates as the film navigates its final hurdles.
