Suriya’s latest film Karuppu, known as Veera Bhadrudu in Telugu, has turned into a nightmare for fans and the industry alike. Despite Suriya’s solid reputation for delivering blockbusters, the film’s release has been marred by a series of shocking setbacks.
First, financial disputes between the producers and financiers left the release hanging in limbo, confusing exhibitors and disappointing fans. Suriya himself had to intervene, reportedly assuring financiers that he would resolve all outstanding issues. While these negotiations offered a glimmer of hope, the chaos only deepened.
In a move that stunned the industry, unauthorized screenings of Karuppu occurred in North India, even as its official release was on hold. Producer SR Prabhu and the Producers Council condemned these illegal shows at a press meet, warning that such actions fuel piracy and threaten the film’s ₹140 crore business. Qube Corporation admitted fault, but the damage was already done—fans voiced outrage online, fearing pirated copies would now flood the internet.
To make matters worse, the Telugu version, Veera Bhadrudu, directed by RJ Balaji and featuring Trisha as the female lead, has seen almost no buzz or advance bookings in Telugu states. A lacklustre promotional campaign and minimal visibility have left the film struggling to attract audiences, with its fate now hinging on word of mouth.
With so much at stake and so many missteps, all eyes are on whether Suriya’s efforts can salvage the film’s release and reputation in the days ahead.
