Tollywood is currently embroiled in a tense standoff between exhibitors and producers that threatens to disrupt the crucial summer release season. The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, led by President D. Suresh Babu, has convened important talks to address the deadlock centered on shifting from a fixed rental system to a percentage-based revenue sharing model. This dispute also touches on the contentious OTT release window, with exhibitors demanding a longer theatrical-to-digital gap to safeguard box office earnings.

The Telangana Film Exhibitors Association has escalated the situation by declaring plans to shut down theatres starting May 1st, coinciding with the high-stakes summer film slate. Producers, including major names like Dil Raju, largely oppose the percentage system, fearing it could jeopardize their investments. Despite Suresh Babu’s willingness to negotiate, the majority of producers remain firm against changing the existing model.

Senior producer C. Kalyan highlighted the sensitivity of the situation, emphasizing the urgent need for reconciliation to prevent a full-scale industry crisis. The ongoing spate of sharp public exchanges between industry figures has intensified pressure on the Chamber to broker a mutually acceptable solution.

With several big-ticket films lined up for release, fans and filmmakers alike are anxiously awaiting the outcome of these talks. The industry's future hinges on whether these meetings can defuse tensions and keep theatres open during this pivotal season.
