Tollywood's ongoing debate over theatrical revenue-sharing has taken a new turn as prominent producers Mythri Ravi Shankar and Bunny Vas aired strong opinions in response to SVC's Shirish Reddy and Telangana exhibitors. With the much-awaited film Peddi set for release amid industry turbulence, the conversation around rental versus percentage sharing models has reached a boiling point.
Recently, SVC's Shirish Reddy asserted that single screens would only accept a percentage-sharing model, even if authorities permitted higher ticket prices. Reacting sharply, Mythri Ravi Shankar highlighted that SVC had released several films like War 2 and Coolie without raising objections earlier, and questioned the timing of their demand. "We must sit and discuss. The industry has been suffering for the last four to five months without proper releases," Ravi Shankar stated, calling for calm as Peddi prepares to hit screens.
Adding another perspective, Bunny Vas pointed to deeper issues behind falling theatrical revenues. He argued that steep ticket prices and long gaps between major hero releases have pushed audiences away, especially hurting small-budget films. Vas also cited shorter OTT windows and costly multiplex refreshments as key reasons for declining footfalls. "Tollywood should first focus on the existing issues rather than fighting over revenues that are already alarmingly low," he urged.
With fans and industry insiders watching closely, all eyes are now on whether the producers and exhibitors will find common ground and restore stability as the summer release season approaches.
