Tollywood’s leading producers, including Mythri Ravi Shankar, S Naga Vamsi, and Sahu Garapati, have publicly responded to the recent demands and concerns raised by Nizam exhibitors amid rising tensions in the Telugu film exhibition sector. This comes at a crucial time as Ram Charan’s highly anticipated film ‘Peddi’ is slated for release, intensifying the urgency to resolve ongoing disputes.
The producers highlighted that the cinema industry is currently navigating challenges affecting both distributors and producers, with many single-screen theatres like Sreeramulu shutting down. They emphasized the absence of a proper tracking system for single screens, which complicates revenue transparency. Mythri Ravi noted significant investments made in upgrading theatres such as Vimal, showing that well-maintained single screens continue to draw audiences.
Criticism was also directed at certain exhibitors who, despite owning hundreds of multiplex screens, are vocal about single-screen issues. S Naga Vamsi remarked, “It has become a joke after the exhibitor started talking about the issues of the single screens.” The producers expressed their openness to discussions and possible new arrangements, provided that the exhibitors engage constructively. They also raised concerns about additional charges like popcorn fees and BookMyShow commissions, which burden audiences.
A joint meeting involving all stakeholders is scheduled for May 15th to seek common ground. The producers hope this dialogue will pave the way for balanced solutions ahead of major film releases, ensuring stability in the Telugu film industry’s exhibition landscape.
