Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will return to Hyderabad from London on August 23 after the central government denied political clearance for his planned official visit to the United States. The state government confirmed that the Ministry of External Affairs communicated the denial, stating that "clearance from political angle is denied" for the US leg of the trip.
Revanth Reddy was originally scheduled to travel from the UK to the US as part of the Telangana Rising delegation, with engagements lined up in Boston and New York. The delegation had already reached the UK when the Centre’s decision was conveyed. While the UK visit received approval, the US portion was blocked, prompting the Chief Minister to cancel his onward journey and return directly to Hyderabad.
Despite this setback, Revanth Reddy has instructed officials accompanying him to proceed with the US visit as planned. The delegation will continue discussions with leading educational institutions such as Harvard University, MIT, Northeastern University, and Virginia Tech, focusing on potential partnerships and Memoranda of Understanding.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the initiative aimed to bring world-class educational opportunities to Telangana, aligning with the New Education Policy. "The only purpose of the visit was to, as part of the New Education Policy of the Centre, bring the world’s best institutions to India, to Telangana, to Hyderabad," he stated. He also stressed that issues related to education and youth should transcend political differences.
During his remaining days in the UK, Revanth Reddy is expected to meet with academics and representatives from Oxford University, Cambridge University, the London School of Economics, London Business School, and the University of London. The Telangana government is also seeking to formalise partnerships with leading sports and skill-development institutions in the UK.
